Calabasas

Calabasas, CA

Nestled snugly in the northwest Santa Monica Mountains region of world-famous Los Angeles County, Bloomberg magazine announced that Calabasas, as of 2020, has eclipsed Beverly Hills as the wealthiest city in the nation. The average household income is more than double the national average at just over $194,000, and the star-studded city and home of the Kardashians surpassed the 90210 by an estimated $4,000 per household. Calabasas owes some of its success in reaching that lofty spot to low crime, good schools, and lots of space for people to spread out, although its' exclusivity seems to be what attracts potential buyers to sign on the dotted line.

In recent decades, celebrities have been moving into Calabasas because of the proximity to Hollywood. They move here because it is not a tourist area, and it allows for a normal life to be lived without the extra attention that celebrities get in other parts of Los Angeles. A few celebrities with homes here are huge names such as Drake, Kanye West, Katie Holmes, and even Justin Bieber until he recently sold his $7.2 million mansion to Khloe Kardashian.

Residents here have an expectation of ultimate privacy, as the entire city is closed off to non-residents. Even if someone managed to slip past security, almost every neighborhood is gated. While some of the local population may be the entertainment industries' elite, that does not mean everyone who lives here is trying to make it in Tinseltown. The city, which doesn't have a business tax, is home to such large corporate headquarters as Cheesecake Factory, Inc., and AmaWaterways, who offer luxury trips down the Seine and Danube Rivers.

There is plenty to do here without ever having to leave the city. Calabasas Commons shopping center is home to the Edwards Grand Palace 6 movie theater, which hosts the Calabasas Film Festival each year. Avid shoppers can spend a day looking for clothes at LuluLemon and Feature. Polacheck's Jewelers has been in business for over 100 years and offers some of the most exclusive designer jewelry. Their world-renowned watch collection includes Cartier, Rolex, and Patek Philippe.

If hours of shopping get you hungry, grab an all-natural pie at Fresh Brothers Pizza. The Marmalade Café has $5 Lobster Tacos on Taco Tuesday and make sure to leave room for dessert at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. They have the best artisanal frozen treats, and 95% of the items used or bought in the store are compostable, recyclable, or reusable.

If you prefer getting in touch with nature over the hard pavement of a shopping mall, you're in luck, as Malibu Creek State Park and Calabasas Creek Park have beautiful walking trails. Residents can bring their favorite four-legged friends for a stroll while taking in some incredible scenery.

Calabasas means pumpkin in Spanish, and the yearly Pumpkin Festival brings residents out to enjoy food, fun, and pumpkin-themed activities. While the homeowners of Calabasas have the privacy from human eyes, nuisance wildlife is not so accommodating. Whether you've got raccoons wetting their food in the pool or gophers digging up the front lawn, it’s time to contact 101 Gopher & Pest Control. We have been servicing the best Calabasas has to offer for over 20 years and we have worked hard to earn our #1 ranking.
