Northridge, California

Westlake Village, CA

Northridge is a district in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. It is known for being the California State University and the Northridge Fashion Center location. The community was named Zelzah by pioneers in 1908 but was later renamed North Los Angeles in 1929. However, this led to confusion between North Hollywood and Los Angeles, and in 1938, civic leader Carl S. Dentzel renamed the area Northridge Village, which evolved into Northridge. The Native American Gabrielino, also known as the Tongva, inhabited the area about 2,000 years ago, followed by Spanish explorers.

The California State University system prepares students for success in the workforce, making it a critical component of California's economy. With over 132,000 annual graduates, CSU is the state's largest producer of bachelor's degrees. The CSU is renowned for the quality of its teaching and for producing job-ready graduates. With 23 campuses and seven off-campus centers, it educates the most diverse student body in the country. The mission is to provide students with a high-quality education that prepares them to become leaders in a constantly changing workforce.

Located on the CSU campus, The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts offers an extensive program of multidisciplinary performances. With a mission to present various performances and become the cultural heart of the San Fernando Valley, The Soraya has nearly 50 classical and popular music, dance, theater, family, and international events. The Arts Education program aims to positively impact K-12 students and provide professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.

Get a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Hollywood elite at The Oakridge Estate, a historic house built in 1937 by architect Paul R. Williams and Hollywood actress Barbara Stanwyck. The 6000 square foot Irish farmhouse sits atop a hill, offering views of the San Fernando Valley and Marwyck Ranch, a 130-acre Thoroughbred Farm co-owned by Stanwyck with Zeppo and Marion Marx. Perhaps the best feature is the roughly 650-square-foot great room, which features a 60-foot-long mural themed around English-style jumping horses. Visitors are challenged to find initials or other clues hidden in the picture. The city manages the Oakridge Estate Park, including the original house and a small ranch section. Northridge was once called the "Horse Capital of the West" and was well-known for its horse shows, stampedes, and country fairs held on Sundays and annually.

For the best amenities in the area, The Porter Valley Country Club offers a luxurious experience with an 18-hole championship golf course surrounded by the Santa Susana Mountains and amenities such as tennis, pickleball, swimming, fitness, and dining. The pool is a junior Olympic private pool with a summer swim school, masters swim club and a nationally ranked USA Swim Team. The club also has tennis leagues and classes and golf and swim lessons.
